This article with pictures tells about all the fun happenings at Ashtabula Lakeshore Park located on the shores of Lake Erie.
The Entrance
After you make your entrance, you will soon discover a duck pond to your left with a swan, several ducks, and geese sitting on the ground. The pond has a beautiful waterfall and the ducks enjoy swimming around it. There are also several other ducks nesting on dry land with beautiful flowers and greenery all around them!
Sitting Geese
Once you get out of your car to get a closer view of the pond, you will notice that the geese do not move. I was able to get up close to take a great picture of the geese. I was almost tempted to pet them but I managed to restrain myself. However, the next time I visit this park I will try to pet them.
Mesmerized by the pond
As soon as I approached the pond, the ducks started swimming towards me!! I felt privileged that they would do this! However, soon after they discovered that I had nothing to feed them they started to swim away. I tried to get them to turn around by calling them so that I could get a good close-up picture! They hesitated briefly and then called my bluff. No food! No close-ups!! Yes, the next time I will come prepared!!
Beautiful Lake Erie
After you tear yourself away from the duck pond and make your way down the road, you will discover the beautiful Lake Erie! I am looking forward to bringing our precious granddaughters here for swimming, picnicking, and hiking. I took all the pictures of Ashtabula Lakeshore Park on a cold day so there were not many people around. As soon as the weather gets a little warmer it will be hard for me to take pictures that don’t include people. Then I will have to ask their permission before taking photographs.
Picnic Area
The picnic areas are very well-manicured and include a picnic table, a grill, and beautiful trees. For today’s visit, we won’t be picnicking because it was a bit too cold. However, the next time I will make sure to pack a picnic lunch, and, oh yes, I must not forget the duck food.
Playground with concession stand in the background
On days when it may be too cold for swimming, you can take your toddler to the playground and afterward visit the concession stand for a snack. The ground in the playground area is padded with sand which makes it safer for youngsters.
The Loading Dock behind the concession stand
Further down the road is the loading dock for those lucky people who can afford a boat! To the left is a small beach house for changing clothes before and after swimming. There are also public restrooms.
In Conclusion! Ashtabula may have lost Sears and its famous Mall but we still have a very fine tourist attraction in this Great Park on the shores of Lake Erie. Lake Erie is what put Ashtabula on the map in the first place. By the way, Lake Erie is only 7 miles from my home in Plymouth Township.
