Some thoughtful gift ideas for the horse lover in your family or friendship circle.
Things to Consider
When buying a gift for a horse lover, there are several things to consider: Does the horse lover ride a horse? If so, does she or she own the horse or use someone else’s, for example at a horseback riding school or board at a stable?
Riding Lessons
Let us start with gift ideas for horse lovers who don’t have the opportunity to ride: The one thing they would probably appreciate the most would be riding lessons. Depending on your budget and how close the person you are giving the gift to is to you; this could be a one-time gift certificate or a certain period that you would pay for lessons.
Keep in mind that you need to research the gear needed. For the one-time gift certificate, you need to find a stable that will provide the gear. The most basic piece of equipment is a riding helmet (required by law). Boots are also required, but a lot of places let a beginning rider get away with wearing their own (hiking boots, etc.) A rider must also wear long pants. Some riding stables provide at least the helmet, so research this as well to help you save money.
Tickets
If you can’t go through the effort of providing a gift of lessons, but still want to give the person something unique that involves actual living horses, you can get them a ticket to a horse show. You can call most major stables that are listed in the phone book and find out when and where they take place. Of course, the Internet is always a great tool and no doubt you can find what you need on there.
Horse Lovers Who Do Not Ride
For some easier gift ideas for the non-riding horse, the lover tries everyday items with horse themes. Just about everything you can imagine comes in horse designs. Some inexpensive examples are: cups, mousepads, drinking glasses, cookie jars, towels, throws and blankets, figurines, handbags, curtains – the list goes on and on. Jewelry is always nice to give if the recipient is female. For example, horse pendants and charm bracelets are popular.
Horse Lovers Who Own Horses
For the horse lover who owns a horse, they would probably even appreciate gifts that they can use for the actual horse itself. Keeping a horse is very expensive. It helps to know if they use Western or English gear or both. However, the best would probably be a gift certificate to a catalog that sells equipment.
If the gift-givers are knowledgeable about horses themselves and know what items horses need, much-used items such as horse grooming items and assorted tack items make excellent gifts. Try to stay away from giving horse treats as gifts, because horse stomachs are a delicate thing and the horse owner knows the diet of their horse best.
Horse Riders Who Do Not Own Horses
For the horse lover who rides, but does not own a horse, you can give riding equipment as gifts. Again, you will need to know if they ride Western or English, or both. If in doubt, a gift certificate towards some new riding boots, a cool looking helmet, riding pants, etc would work well.
