Who were the voices behind our favorite Sesame Street characters? Here is a look at a few of them.
Elmo
We all know Elmo to be a well-beloved puppet on the children’s television show Sesame Street. He’s furry, he’s red and he’s a monster but who is his puppeteer?
Kevin Clash
If you met this guy in person would you know that he’s the guy that does Elmo’s voice?
Kevin Clash is a talented puppeteer that bought life to Elmo. Currently, Clash is Sesame Street’s Muppet Captain and co-executive producer. Clash won the Daytime Emmy Awards for outstanding performer series, for his work as Elmo and Hoots the owl on Sesame Street in, 1990, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2009.
Oscar the Grouch
And of course who doesn’t love that stinky old grouch Oscar? So rude, so dirty, and oh so angry. But who does this angry puppet’s voice? You may ask and here’s your answer…
Caroll Spinney
The voice behind our trashy grouch is Caroll Spinney. Spinney also puppeteers ed other puppets including big bird Bruno the trash man and granny bird.
Bruno the Trashman
Oscar had many things in his trash can home including a piano, swimming pool, and of course his pet elephant.
Cookie Monster
Cookie monster was voiced by many including Frank Oz a British-born puppeteer and actor. Then in 2002, the primary voice of Cookie became producer and puppeteer David Rudman. Jim Henson himself voiced our beloved monster for some time as well.
Jim Henson
We all love those Sesame Street puppets and thanks to Jim Henson we all have fond memories of childhood.
